7 of the 11 highest-grossing movies of 2017 were superhero movies that were based on characters introduced first in comic books. Even in 2018, the highest-grossing movies included Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Deadpool 2, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and more. So what exactly is this obsession with superhero movies?
Even though these movies fail to make sense within the logic of their own worlds – why do superheroes and villains persist in hurling objects at each other even though it has no effect? Why are bystanders even present when they know something is about to go down and buildings are about to be destroyed?
I am Alec, a diehard Marvel Fan who simply cannot miss a single Marvel flick even If I have an important exam the next day!
I absolutely love superhero moves even if they aren’t meant to be taken seriously by anyone who is older than 12. Even though things like religion, government, and ethics end up being irrelevant, the storylines are always compelling and the humor is top notch (at least in most cases!).
What I don’t get is how the normal humans are mere bystanders yet they try to square up with the villains. They either end up getting crushed or vaporized yet they still have to put on their superhero suit and try to save the day… until they themselves are saved by the real superhero.
Movies like Deadpool and Avengers have been a revelation as they have provided millions around the world including me with a lot of laughter. I hope we have a lot of exceptional superhero movies in store because I would hate to switch to another genre. Anyway, I can start watching black and white documentaries but I will never support DC!
