Image Credit: Pinterest Megyn Kelly is leaving FOX for NBC. Yes, that means she is leaving the house that conservatives and the alt-right (read: white supremacists) have built into a news channel better known for twisting the truth than reporting it, at times, and heading to a news channel that has been built on the integrity of its reporting.
Megyn Kelly, once the darling of conservative news, came to national prominence during this past election. This past August, during the televised debate between Trump and Hilary Clinton, Kelly refused to give fellow Republican Trump a pass. She pressed him to answer the questions she put forth to him regarding his treatment of women. Two days later in a TV interview, Trump lambasted Kelly and made the statement-turned-famous-quote, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”
Trump and Kelly continued to feud publicly, and through that, a star was born. As the media spotlight shown on Kelly, she also jumped into the fray regarding Roger Ailes (former chairman and CEO of FOX News) and his alleged sexual harassment of female employees. Kelly, too, shared that the now ex-top dog of FOX News made inappropriate comments and lewd suggestions toward her.
As 2016 hurtled toward its end, Kelly’s star shone brighter and brighter. Kelly released her memoir, “Settle for More,” in November. In it, she not only described the alleged bad behavior of Ailes, but she also described the moment she had to have a “kiss the ring” interview with Trump. Trump’s followers had upped their ante from trolling her to making death threats to Kelly and her family. After making nice with Trump, the death threats coincidentally ceased.
As soon as it was reported in all the major (and minor) news channels that her existing contract with FOX News was coming to an end, speculation abound regarding whether she would stay at the “fair and balanced” network or move on to other news networks.
Today, various news outlets are trumpeting the news that Kelly, arguably FOX’s brightest star, has decided to leave the building. USA Today’s headline reads, “Megyn Kelly Bolts Fox News for NBC News,” whereas Patch.com states, “BREAKING: Megyn Kelly’s Big Move From FOX (And Big Bucks To Come),” and so on. While some outlets are reporting the news in a matter-of-fact manner, others are evidently gleeful about this significant move.
The New York Times has reported that, “The NBC News Chairman, Andrew Lack, wooed Ms. Kelly away from FOX News by offering her a triple role in which she will host her own daytime news and discussion program, anchor an in-depth Sunday night news show and take regular part in the network’s special political programming and other big-event coverage.”
Not bad for someone who joined FOX News in 2004 as news newbie, and whose network reportedly offered her a $20 million plus contract this past December to persuade her to stay. No confirmation yet on how much money NBC News offered Kelly to make the leap, but rest assured that she’ll be one of the highest paid news hosts in the business.
