James Corden Slammed For 'Disgusting' Harvey Weinstein Jokes
James Corden now likely understands the difference between doing karaoke in a car and emceeing a gala event.
The British comedian was hosting the amfAR Gala in Los Angeles last night in a room full of Hollywood A-listers. It seems he was too tempted to show his funny side by making jokes about Harvey Weinstein.
The jokes, however, fell flat with a mixture of groans, scattered laughs, and confused, uncomfortable looks.
“This is a beautiful room,” he kicked off his monologue. “It’s a beautiful night here in L.A. So beautiful, Harvey Weinstein has already asked tonight up to his hotel to give him a massage.”
"I don't know whether that groan was that you like that joke or you don't like that joke. If you don't like that joke, you should probably leave now," he continued.
"It has been a weird week though, watching Harvey Weinstein in hot water," the 39-year-old talk-show host added. "Ask any of the women who watched him take a bath — it's weird watching Harvey Weinstein in hot water."
As soon as the footage of Corden making Weinstein jokes was shared on YouTube, social media began bombarding him with a barrage of criticism.
"He's a literal rapist and you're out there like 'Lol what bad guy he's gonna f**k this hotel room'. Literally what were you thinking?” one Twitter user blasted.
One user even went further calling Corden a "slimy misogynist".
Rose McGowan and Asia Argento, who have gone public with their sex abuse claims against Weinstein, also slammed Corden for making jokes about the fallen movie mogul.
In a series of tweets, McGowan gave Corden a piece of her mind: “Hearing the vile roars & laughs show EXACTLY what kind of HOLLYWOOD you really are.”
Maajid Nawaz, a British radio host, also criticized his countryman for his untimely jokes.
"It's too raw, too soon and too live a moment, to mock that moment,” Nawaz said in his show. "You don't right there, while the issue is live, go and do something like that."
Corden has not yet responded to the criticism.
