My psychology professor walked around the classroom while teaching the principles of stress management. As she raised the glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the typical question of “ Is the glass half empty or half full?” However, with a smile on her face, she asked-?
Students shouted from 6 ounces to a couple of pounds. She replied - According to me, the weight of this glass doesn’t matter, it all depends on how long you can hold it. I immediately answered, “ Then what’s the point of asking it’s weight”. The whole class started laughing towards my question just like you.
She took a moment and answered that whether you hold the glass for a day or an hour, in each case the weight of the glass doesn’t change, however, the longer I hold it the heavier it feels to me.
As the class shook their heads in agreement, she continued - Our stresses are like this glass of water. Just think about them for a while and nothing happens. If you think about them a bit longer, you start to ache a little. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel completely numb.
It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses and worries. Don’t carry your stresses for a long time with you, let go of them and live a happier life.
