Warm Up Exercise for Piano

As with the guitar, warming up before playing the piano is important. Even if you do not believe it, not heating properly can cause injuries, which will stall your progress as a pianist. If you do not want that to happen and your learning is continuous, remember to warm up with the following exercises that we will show you next:

First Exercise:

Put your hand on a firm surface completely relaxed. Once you have placed them on a table or other firm surface, proceed to separate the fingers from each other. Hold this position for about 5 to 10 seconds. Repeat this exercise about 8 to 10 times.

Second Exercise:

Again look for a signature surface and place your hand on it but this time made a fist. Important: the back of the hand should face the table. Now with your fist in place, proceed to open your hand slowly and stretch your fingers as far as you can. Hold the tension for a time similar to the first exercise. Repeat 8 to 10 times.

Third Exercise:

Follow the same procedure as in exercise number two, but instead of opening your hand slowly what you will do is open your fingers one by one in a pause. When you open each finger, try to reach its maximum tension. Do the exercise slowly and repeat it 3 to 5 times.

Fourth year:

This is a variation of exercise number one. You have to perform the same steps but now you must place rubber bands between your fingers. This will raise the intensity of the exercise, so it is advisable to lower the repetitions to only 3 to 5.

These are the four exercises you must perform before playing the piano. Remember also to complement these exercises with the practice of arpeggios, which according to a considerable number of pianists is an excellent way to warm up before going to the practice session in particular.

Touch Slowly

It is a fact that the brain is not able to absorb musical information when it is played too fast. If you really want to get the most out of your practice sessions, choose to play slowly.
