A man killed his mother and sister and wounded a third person on a street in a Paris suburb before being killed by police.

French Interior Minister Gérard Collomb said the incident was not currently being treated as a terror attack.

The Islamic State group claimed it was behind the attack but offered no proof, report CNN and the BBC.

The man ran into a house after attacking his victims before coming out with a knife in his hand, at which point he was shot by police.

The person who was seriously injured was not a member of the family, Collomb added. The police investigation continues, he said.

The attacker was on the File for the Prevention of Terrorist Radicalization, a targeted watch list which focuses on would-be jihadists.

The anti-terror Paris prosecution office has not yet opened an investigation into the attack, as is customary if there is a strong indication of a link to terrorism.
