Elon Musk Apologizes To Diver For Twitter Slur

Elon Musk has apologized for calling one of the men involved in the Thai cave rescue mission a "pedo," or pedophile.

The Tesla CEO has faced an intense backlash over the unfounded claim against Vernon Unsworth, an expert caver who participated in the rescue mission that saved 12 boys and their soccer coach from a flooded cave in Thailand.

Musk expressed remorse on Twitter, according to CNN and the BBC.

He said that while Unsworth provoked him, "his actions against me do not justify my actions against him, and for that I apologize to Unsworth and to the companies I represent as leader. The fault is mine and mine alone."

He said he had "spoken in anger" after Vern Unsworth ridiculed a mini-submarine he had commissioned for the rescue effort as a "PR stunt."

Unsworth has said he may sue for being called a "paedophile."

Twelve boys and their football coach were rescued from deep within a cave earlier this month after being trapped for more than two weeks.

Unsworth's knowledge of the cave complex is said to have played a key role in the rescue effort.

He traveled into the caves in the first days after the boys went missing and helped bring in top international cave rescue experts for the mission.
