European Union tariffs on products from the United States will go into effect on Friday.

The European Commission announced Wednesday that it had approved initial retaliatory tariffs on US exports worth €2.8 billion ($3.2 billion), report the BBC and CNN.

The tariffs will hit American products including motorcycles, orange juice, bourbon, peanut butter, motor boats, cigarettes and denim. They are a response to the Trump administration's tariffs on steel and aluminum exports from Europe.

The EU drew up the list of products in March when Trump initially proposed the 25% tariffs on steel imports and 10 percent on aluminium, which also target Canada, Mexico and other close US allies.

Cranberries, orange juice, sweetcorn, and peanut butter are among the other goods targeted.

It comes amid an intensifying row over trade between the US and its partners.
