Guzman Trial Begins Amid Tight Security

In opening statements before jurors in federal district court in New York, Assistant US Attorney Adam Fels portrayed Guzman as a man who rose from a small-town dealer to a kingpin capable of making $10 million cocaine deals, according to CNN.

Fels alleged that Guzman had hundreds of men with assault rifles working for him in Mexico and he himself owned a monogrammed, diamond-encrusted handgun, and a gold-plated assault rifle.

46Guzman himself pulled the trigger and ordered the disposal of bodies

Defense attorney Jeffrey Lichtman said Guzman spent substantial time in Mexican prisons, during which the flow of drugs into the United States continued unabated.
