Last night’s 74th Golden Globes officially kicked off awards season. Many think a Golden Globes win is a good predictor of an Oscar victory and who wins the red carpet best dressed of the season. Looking at the gowns that strode on that carpet last night, the trends included red lips, structured hairstyles, off-the-shoulder necklines, lace, yellow, pastels, big earrings, and lots of metallic shades from silver to platinum and gold. Louis Vuitton was the hot designer of the night — the brand dressed many of the nominees.

Thandie Newton, Emma Stone and Viola Davis ruled the night wearing modern, yet romantic evening dresses.

There were fashion disasters (sorry Jessica Biel and Chrissy Teigen), and some celebs who kept to the same old style they wear year after year after year.

Let’s see the major fashion victories and superstar defeats of the night. Read on to see who was the best and the worst dressed.

Best Dressed

Ruth Negga

Nominee Ruth Negga (“Loving”) looked futuristically cool in a silver gown by Louis Vuitton and gold wrist cuff from Fred Leighton.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis wore a sleek Michael Kors gown and a whopping 90 carats of diamonds from Harry Winston, creating one of the chicest looks of the night.

Brie Larson

From the criss-cross bodice on the gorgeous red Rodarte gown to the sparkly Forevermark jewelry, Brie Larson embodied movie star glamour.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman and her baby bump glowed in this bead-detailed gown from Prada.

Emma Stone

Not only did Emma Stone’s Valentino gown feature a constellation o' stars, even on the straps, but she complemented it with Tiffany & Co. jewelry and pretty Jimmy Choo shoes.

Sophie Turner

Black, white and bold! “Game of Thrones” Sophie Turner rocked crisp, modern style from red carpet favorite Louis Vuitton.

Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana looked so sophisticated and stylish in this Gucci gown. You can hear the knock-offs being made all over town.

Thandie Newton

Hate to use this cliché, but ”Westworld’s” Thandie Newton was on fire in this Monse gown and dazzling diamonds by Harry Winston.

Worst Dressed

Sarah Jessica Parker

While watching the red carpet parade, my friend turned to me and said, “SJP looks like a 'Star Wars' reject.”

Nicole Kidman

On the red carpet, Nicole Kidman always takes fashion risks. Ten percent of the time it works out. This outfit, featuring a McQueen gown with dangling silvery things that look like car keys and the weird puffed off-the-shoulder sleeves, is not one of them.

Drew Barrymore

Why, Drew, why? This off-the-shoulder dress has so many things going on. The beading, patterns and details. You looked lost in it. Everyone got dizzy looking at you.

Sofia Vergara

It looks like she wore armor from a really, really bad B movie about dragons.

Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel may have been wearing Elie Saab, but it still looked like she stapled a scarf to her skirt. But I do like the Ferragamo sandals and sparkly jewelry from Neil Lane.

Kerry Washington

Yes, it may be Dolce & Gabbana, but Kerry Washington’s red carpet dress still looks like it was made with a crochet kit.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen is gorgeous, brilliant, funny and has an amazing body. That said, this dress by Marchesa looks like my great aunt’s dressy table cloth. It’s just too glitzy and overdone.

Carrie Underwood

Don’t get too close to Carrie — I think the top of her gown might eat you. If you've seen “Little Shop of Horrors,” the top looks like Seymour's twin.

There is inspiration everywhere at the Golden Globes. When celebrities glide down the red carpet, you get your own ideas for dressing up for your next big outing. Whether it’s a spring wedding, charity gala, prom, or full-length gown outing to the supermarket, we’re here to help you find great designer dresses.

We found four great looks for less inspired by the ensembles Reese Witherspoon, Tracee Ellis Ross, Brie Larson, and Zoe Saldana wore to the Golden Globes. Check them out!

1.) Reese Witherspoon

The petite Witherspoon knows what works for her  when it comes to the red carpet. She usually picks gowns that don’t overwhelm her slender frame, like this column, which is similar to one she wore 10 years ago (if it works, it works). Her Golden Globes gown is a custom Atelier Versace and she paired it with yellow heels and sparkled like mad with jewelry from Tiffany & Co. We’re not even going attempt to add up the price of her outfit. We just think you can spend under $250 for a similarly gorgeous look.

Yellow strapless gown, $145, Unique-Prom

Simply Vera Vera Wang double strand curb chain necklace, $38, Kohl’s

Yellow open-toe heels, $14.99, AMI Clubwear

2.) Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross picked up her first Golden Globe last night. She was blinged out from head to toe in a beautiful sequin and beaded strapless dress from Zuhair Murad. She also had rings on every finger by jewelry designers Noudar and Yprem. Even her toes sparkled in beaded pumps. Here’s how to get that same sparkly star quality style for way under $175!

Marina floral sequin strapless gown in silver, $82.50, Neiman Marcus Last Call

Adrianna Papell Georgi satin beaded mesh pump, $62.30, Neiman Marcus Last Call

Oval crystal ring, $8.44, Claire’s

Large silver ball ring with crystals cocktail ring, $8.75, Icing

3.) Brie Larson

Brie Larson won Best Actress last year, and returned to the Golden Globes this year as a presenter. Her sleek and sophisticated ensemble included a beautifully fitted red gown by Rodarte with matching red lipstick and diamond studs. This is style can take you to any big event throughout the year, especially when you can get it at these not-so-bad prices.

White by Vera Wang long strapless bridesmaid dress, $179.95, David's Bridal

8mm round cubic zirconia vintage set stud earrings, $8.75, Icing

Votre Vu French Kiss lipstick in All-American Saturated Red, $23, Votre Vu

4.) Zoe Saldana

Zoe looked ready to party in a pink and red Gucci gown. The cheerful colors are perfect for spring events, and if you want something that has the same happy vibe, but way more budget-friendly, look below.

Adrianna Papell colorblock strapless gown, $279, Nordstrom

Gold and crystal regal chandelier earrings, $13.65, Icing
