4) Maturity will get you respected

Grow up –  For young enlisted people, you will be tasked and responsible for a lot of military gear and equipment and will handle some very deadly weapons too. 

One old adage sums it up best, “It’s PhDs and masters degrees that design the 
aircraft, bachelor degrees that fly it, and high school graduates who maintain it.”
  

As a squad leader, platoon sergeant, or section chief, your decisions or actions could place your subordinates in danger or get them killed – maturity usually goes along with the rank but not always.  

Your training and leadership style will determine if you get respected and can make hard choices and decisions under stress.
