We know everyone's still working their way through holiday leftovers and that fourth Rogue One viewing, but it's never too early to talk about the cinematic treats that 2017 has in store.
One note: Just because it's not on this list doesn't mean we're not excited. But you already know that Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Beauty and the Beast look good, so we thought we'd concentrate on a few other things we're hyped about.
THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE (Release date: February 10, 2017)
Considering that Will Arnett's Batman stole The LEGO Movie in a big way (and let's be honest, that movie was hilarious enough that it set a HIGH BAR to steal), we're pretty hyped to see what he does on his own.
LOGAN (Release date: March 3, 2017)
We're sad to see Hugh Jackman go, but as any X-Men fan knows, his Wolverine has sometimes been the best part of some otherwise less than good movies. Logan looks dark (but not in a forced way), pensive...everything you'd want from Jackman's swan song in this character.
And X-23! We're thrilled that she's going to be on the big screen, and excited to see where she goes from here.
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (Release date: July 7, 2017)
Ask anyone what they loved most about Captain America: Civil War and they'll say two things. One, that airport scene. Two, Spider-Man's triumphant return (yes, an actual homecoming) back to the Marvel fold.
It's not that we didn't like Andrew Garfield (or even Tobey McGuire, when it comes down to it). But Garfield didn't have a lot to work with, and also was a bit too pretty to really sell us on the kind of nerdy, geeky everyteen that Peter Parker's supposed to be. Hopes are pretty high for this adaptation.
THE DARK TOWER (Release date: July 28, 2017)
Idris Elba as The Gunslinger and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black. What more do you need to know?
Yes, it could still be disappointing. But we're hopeful that it will be epic, and the studio pushing it back to the middle of summer release season seems like it might be a vote of confidence in its blockbuster potential.
GOD PARTICLE (working title) (Release date: October 27, 2017)
That's the only in-production working title on this list, so it may change before October 27th. But if you loved Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane, there's no way you're not excited to see what else happens in this universe.
10 Cloverfield Lane was a major and pleasant surprise in early 2016, arriving with no fanfare and unfortunately not drawing a lot of people into theaters despite its claustrophobic, tense excellence. Here's hoping that God Particle is both an amazing piece of cinema and a box office success.
BABY DRIVER (Release date: August 11, 2017)
366an original movie written and directed by Edgar Wright367
THOR: RAGNAROK (Release date: November 3, 2017)
Two words, one name: Taika Waititi. We loved Eagle vs. Shark and What We Do In The Shadows. We also acknowledge that those are about as different from a zillion-dollar-budget Marvel superhero movie as you can get.
However, after Thor: The Dark World, we think some Waititi might be exactly what the Thor franchise needs. Here's hoping that Chris Hemsworth's goofy comedic chops get to come out to play in November.
