Earlier this year, six football associations were fined by FIFA for homophobic chanting during the 2018 WorldCup qualifying matches.

Chile, in particular, was fined the heaviest: up to $70,000 for homophobic slurs and abuse throughout all four of their World Cup qualifiers.

Relating to the fine, a FIFA statement said: “All of the proceedings relate to homophobic chants by the respective team’s fans6263type64figure65contents66attributes67type68Image69slf-post-image70true71id72173type74p75contents76type77text78contents79The other teams that were fined are 80type81b82contents83type84text85contents86Argentina
