Everyone’s favorite sleepy man made his Periscope debut yesterday. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first-ever appearance showed off a lot of wonderful photos, fanart, and other cool and inspiring stuff in his dressing room.
The broadcast ended up coming in two waves due to some technical problems.
Here's the first bit:
After a short technical difficulties disruption, Old Man Miranda came back to tell us about TeeRico and a few other things:
WHAT WE’VE LEARNED
1.) TeeRico sales of the Orlando Strong shirt sold out very quickly and raised over $50K to benefit the LGBT community in Orlando, so LMM is making this a bigger thing, choosing various designs from fans that he loves to grace the new shirts that will start selling next month. More size and shipping options will be available due to fan demand!
2.) They’re still accepting fanart submissions for future TeeRico shirts, and the artists on this platform share in the proceeds.
3.) LMM is feeling good about taking a break (but not necessarily going upstate) after July 9th. The cast for Chicago will be announced soon, and he’s looking forward to his new projects and just being a writer (as opposed to also being a cast member) in Chicago.
5.) Jonathan Groff will be King George in the taped archival performances of Hamilton, and Rory O’Malley will stand aside to allow the original Broadway cast to film together.
6.) LMM still doesn’t know what’s happening with those recordings in the future (or more likely, if he does, he’s not willing to say yet).
7.) LMM wants as many people as possible to see the show LIVE, so no Netflix or other recorded adaptations (even with the OBC) will happen anytime soon.
8.) Stuff in the Hamilton’s America doc includes LMM sitting down with Stephen Sondheim (AKA “Sondheezy”) and Nas.
9.) The Hamilton Mixtape will drop in November 2016, probably the first week of the month.
10.) The Prizeo contest includes airfare and hotel if you’re the lucky winner. A ticket costs only $10, and you have the same shot as everyone else to win two tickets to LMM’s July 9th show. They’re giving away TWO pairs of tickets, not just one—so your shot has just doubled!
11.) “James Corden is as nice as you’d hope he is.”
12.) Javier is not just an understudy; he co-created the Alexander Hamilton character with LMM, so keep that in mind for Javilton.
13.) Puerto Rico restructuring on July 1st needs to happen; per LMM, “your citizens are counting on you, Senators!”
14.) Ticketbot legislation got passed in NY via the Attorney General; it’s now illegal to use in NY state, which should hopefully help regular fans who just want to see their favorite shows! Still doesn’t help outside of NY, though.
15.) LMM highly recommends the Decemberists’ The Crane Wife if you don’t already have it.
