RealMadrid took home their 11th EuropeanChampionship on Saturday in Milan, beating AtleticoMadrid in a penalty shootout 5-3.

Madrid went up early off a free kick from the left hand side that was flicked to the far post by the Welsh international Gareth Bale and touched home by Sergio Ramos. Atletico had a few chances in the first half, but good goalkeeping on both ends of the pitch saw the match 1-0 at halftime.

The match opened up almost immediately in the second half, and saw the Real defender Pepe make a clumsy foul in the box on Fernando Torres forcing the referee to award a penalty for Altetico. The French striker Griezmann stepped up to take the penalty having scored in both the quarterfinal match and semifinal match for Atletico and smashed the penalty off the underside of the crossbar, leaving behind a massive opportunity for Atletico to draw the match level at 1-1.

The match stayed wide open for the remainder of the second half, both teams getting a fair amount of chances on goal, and both goalkeepers showing they are among the best in the world right now. It wasn't until Juan Fran played a beautiful one-time cross into the path of Yannick Carrasco who stabbed the ball home with the inside of his foot.

The eventual goal by Atletico

Real pressured for a late goal and Atletico staved off each successive attack until full time ran out and the match was sent into extra time. The added 30 minutes saw a sustained effort of attack for Real and brilliant defending by Real.

The match went on to penalties and after 4 cool makes by Real Juan Fran stepped up and struck a low shot off the right crossbar. Ronaldo, who had been mostly silent all game stepped up and delivered as he almost always has, striking the ball with deliberately and with power into the right hand corner, sealing the Champions League title for Real Madrid. This was Ronaldo's 3 UEFACup title, we has one 2 with Real Madrid and 1 with Manchester United.

Ronaldo had told his coach Zidane that he had a premonition about winning the match with the final kick in a shootout, and requested he be the 5th shooter. Hard to doubt him when you see how confidently he takes a game winning penalty with the entire world watching.
