The spring Gala is called the Oscars of the East Coast and technically, signals the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual blockbuster show, which this year focuses on iconic Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo and her work on the Comme des Garçons label.

The extravaganza is definitely the best chance for many of us to gawk at the scores of celebrities invited to the grand affair; all come dressed to impress.

The 2017 co-chairs are the god-like husband and wife team, Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, here at their arrival at the Met looking perfect.

Katy Perry, who is co-host along with Pharrell Williams, also made a splash floating onto the red carpet in a scarlet Maison Margiela creation - eliciting both gasps and sighs - presumably of adoration.

Katy's spread in the May 2017 issue of Vogue has her wearing several of Kawakubo’s most outrageous Comme des Garçons designs.

The Kings & Queens of the fashion realm come together. World renowned fashionistas, glamouristas, celebrities, haute couture magicians and most of the fashion-art world in one night of celebration focused on the genius of one designer.

Designer Rei Kawakubo whose work is the focus this year has always been the ultimate rebel. She is the first living designer to be honored a show at the Met Gala since Yves St.Laurent in 1983.

All grand fashion events eventually see an appearance by Kim Kardashian. (Where's Kanye, who got Kimmie her first invite to Vogue editor Anna Wintour's toughest ticket?)

And just in case anyone is wondering what Madonna is wearing to the Met Ball, here she is in her dressing room with her longtime pal, designer Jean Paul Gautier:

More follow ups and pics to come as the evening goes on!
