A guy named Andrew Greene, who apparently worked for Jordan Belfort's brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont during the period covered in the 2013 Martin Scorsese film The Wolf of Wall Street, is now bringing a defamation suit against several people involved with the movie.

Having seen and enjoyed the movie ourselves, but also not having ever been high-powered investors, we have to confess that we couldn't immediately even call the character in question to mind. Instead, when we think of TWoWS, we picture this:

And this:

And of course this:

And this:

And classic LDC reaction shots like this:

And this:

And of course, the inimitable Margot Robbie:

And who could forget the Honest Trailer?

So, in the spirit of inquiry, we went looking for GIFs of said offense. We found exactly one that even showed us the character in question. Here it is.

It makes you have to ask one simple question: By filing this lawsuit, isn't Andrew Greene in effect drawing more attention to himself and allegations of shady past dealings than there would otherwise have been?

We have nothing to do with the guy, and certainly wouldn't know him to say hi if we met him on the street. However, it's reasonable to assume that his friends and family who do know him also know what he's like. Anyone who isn't friends or family is unlikely to put this guy and the guy in the video we're about to show you together. We're not legal experts by any stretch, but we have to wonder: How, exactly, is this defamation?

This comes just two months after the announcement that The Wolf of Wall Street financial backers Red Granite are under US DOJ investigation to determine whether they've used misallocated funds to finance several projects, including TWoWS. We swear, if you were a Hollywood screenwriter and you tried to stick this in your script, no one would believe you.

Or maybe it'll be a script in the future? Time will tell.
