Dating 101: How you can deal with first-date anxiety and have fun too

Make no mistake here, first dates are tricky business. When they go badly, they can often feel like an interview. Yikes. There’s nothing worse than sitting opposite someone who is quizzing you half to death. Nope, there should be an easy flow of conversation between the two of you so that you can really get to know one another.

If you don’t know where to start, you’ve come to the right place. Here are some out-of-the-ordinary questions that you may just want to whip out when you’re on your date. Ask some of these and you’ll be sure to get the chitter-chatter going strong.

What’s your dream job?

Let’s face it, you want to know if the two of you are compatible. That’s fair enough. So, you need to make sure that you’re both on the same life track. Asking what a person’s dream job is means that you will get a sense of their aspirations.

Who are you closest to in your family?

If you really want to figure out what type of person your date is, this is a real key question. If they struggling to answer it at all, that’s a serious red flag. Everyone should be close to at least a few members of their family.

What are you really, really bad at?

Eek! This one is extremely hard to answer and, actually, that’s the point. You want to see the person reflect on themselves and understand what their own weaknesses are. Remember, it takes a strong person to self-reflect!

What were you like as a kid?

This sneaky little question may seem innocent enough, but the answer to it will reveal a whole load about your date. If you want to know how they see themselves, this is how you do it. The way people tend to describe their childhood selves is often how they see themselves now.

Tell me something that made you laugh today!

Of course, we all want to date someone with a good sense of humor (GSOH!), but how can you be sure your date has one? Ask them what made them laugh today and all will be revealed in no time at all. Genius.
