This bear stole a car, took it for a joyride and then pooped inside

Imagine going outside to find that a bear has crashed a stolen SUV into your mailbox. It might sound like something out of a quirky cartoon or the start of a bad joke, but that is exactly what happened to Ron Cornelius recently.

After been woken by a loud crashing sound at 5 a.m., the Southwest Colorado resident decided to get up and check what all the noise was about. In his wildest dreams, he likely never would have guessed what he saw next. An empty car, completely smashed, sitting where his mailbox once stood.

So, how did this all happen? Well, sometimes, animals really are much smarter than us humans. And, in this case, a mystery bear did what you or I likely could not have. “It would have taken a human being hours to do what this bear did in a couple minutes,” Cornelius recently told the Durango Herald.

Just before he discovered (what was left of) the vehicle, a bear had broken into it and somehow managed to release the parking brake — all before pooping inside too. After that, the SUV would have began rolling down the street and, unfortunately, straight onto Cornelius’ driveway.

It’s not an isolated incident either. While bears don’t usually take cars for joyrides around the place, law enforcement officers have responded to a whopping 200 complaints about bears just this year.

While most of us would have been mortified at this situation, this guy could see the funny side of the whole fiasco. “Usually, I don’t get up at 5 o’clock unless there is a bear driving a car down the street,” Cornelius later joked to the Durango Herald.

So, what'd we learn? Lock your car doors — or else something insane like this might happen.
