With the stunning Pippa Middleton all set to wed high-flying banker James Matthews this weekend, there's a whole load of fuss going on across the seas. Needless to say, the Brits are ultra excited to see Kate's younger sister walk down the aisle. But what about the Americans?
Surprisingly, the U.S. is in the midst of an on-going love affair with the British royals. Each time a historic moment takes place over in London, the American media goes wild for it. They want details, details, details... and they just won't stop until they get them. Each and every glossy magazine boasts pictures of the royals, dolled up in regal gowns and suave suits. But, is it really worth the hype?
Well, yes, actually, it is. The fact that the UK still has a reigning monarch is one of the few things that makes the country so utterly appealing. Each year, tourists from around the globe come to visit the likes of Buckingham Palace just to get a glimpse of anything remotely royal. And there's a really great reason for that — having a king or queen is more than a mere symbol, it's a status in itself.
The monarchy is something that America has always lacked. It’s what the country has never had and will never have too. Being a relatively new country, globally speaking, it’s only logical that the U.S. people have a fascination with the old, somewhat forgotten ways.
That’s where the British royals come into play — they are essentially a historic throwback; a sign of how things used to be all around the world. Their very existence is enough to remind the rest of the world how things once were. Having kings, queens, princes, and princesses is a romantic notion. It’s one that’s stood the test of time.
What’s more, the story of the Middleton sisters is like something out of a fairytale. Kate was a mere ‘commoner’ (in the loosest sense of the word) before meeting her literal Prince Charming at university. The two had a romantic affair that ended with a ring on her finger. Since then, her normal family have been thrust into the limelight, for better or for worse. The plot may as well be Cinderella for how familiar it feels right now.
Is it any wonder, then, that people want to know more about this tale? I say, no. It’s got everything; romance, intrigue, a rags-to-riches twist, and a whole load of glamor. Ask yourself, what’s not to love?
