13 Sexist Remarks Trump Actually Said
In 2016, after a leaked tape showed Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women, the 45th President disregarded the comment as “locker talk.”
But hateful remarks, especially when made by people in leadership roles, can have enormous destructive power.
"It's just common sense that the way people speak and the language they use affects people's lives...particularly when it's being used by people in authority," Michael Bronski, a Harvard University professor specializing in media and gender studies, told SELF.
Trump's offensive, misogynistic language has helped inflame the rape culture that the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements are dedicated to quashing. Trump’s “locker room” comments were only one example of a very long list of sexist remarks Trump has made.
Here are 13 of the worst:
1. He insisted all women are naturally manipulative (1997).
Trump published a book in 1997 called Trump: The Art of the Comeback. Discussing women, he penned:
“Women have one of the great acts of all time. The smart ones act very feminine and needy, but inside they are real killers. The person who came up with the expression ‘the weaker sex’ was either very naive or had to be kidding. I have seen women manipulate men with just a twitch of their eye—or perhaps another body part.”
2. He was super mean to Rosie O'Donnell (2006).
Trump has hurled insults about Rosie O’Donnell a number of times, including on Entertainment Tonight in 2006. “Rosie O'Donnell is disgusting, both inside and out,” Trump spat. If you take a look at her, she's a slob. How does she even get on television? If I were running The View, I'd fire Rosie. I'd look her right in that fat, ugly face of hers and say, 'Rosie, you're fired.'”
3. He claimed women “flip their panties” (2008).
In an interview with Howard Stern, Trump claimed women are overcome with sexual desire by him, saying, “They’ll walk up, and they’ll flip their top, and they’ll flip their panties.” In the same interview, he talked about sleeping with women with “pancake tits” and said any female who gets a breast reduction is “insane.”
5. He called breast milk disgusting (2011).
Trump has an “absolute meltdown” when a lawyer requested a break from a meeting to pump breastmilk for her newborn baby. "He got up, his face got red, he shook his finger at me and he screamed, 'You're disgusting, you're disgusting,' and he ran out of there," attorney Elizabeth Beck told CNN.
6. He dissed Arianna Huffington (2012).

7. He argued sexual assault is inevitable when men and women work together in the military (2013).

8. He tweeted that Hillary Clinton couldn’t “satisfy her husband” (2015).
In a mysteriously deleted Tweet, Trump referenced Hillary Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, writing:
“If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy America?”
Trump’s office claims it was a social media manager, not Trump, who tweeted the remark.
9. He called Megyn Kelly a “bimbo” (2015).
10. He called Hillary Clinton an “enabler” (2016).
On the campaign trail, Trump called Hillary Clinton an “enabler” of her husband’s affair. “Bill Clinton was the worst in history and I have to listen to her talking about it?" he said at a rally in Oregon. “Just remember this: She was an unbelievably nasty, mean enabler.”
11. He argued women should be punished for having abortions (2016).
In an interview with Chris Matthews of MSNBC, Trump said he believed women should be punished for having abortions. Mathews asked, “Do you believe in punishment for abortion, yes or no as a principle?” Trump responded, “The answer is that there has to be some form of punishment.”
Mathews clarified, “For the woman?”
Trump confirmed, “Yeah, there has to be some form.”
12. He told France’s first lady she was in “good physical shape” (2017).
In a meeting with French first lady Brigitte Macron, Trump made an inappropriate comment about her body: “You’re in such good shape,” he said, before turning to her husband and clarifying, “She’s in such good physical shape.”
13. He called Mika Brzezinski low-I.Q. and crazy (2017).
