Salome is a symbol of dangerous female seductiveness.
Salome /səˈloʊmiː/ was the daughter of Herod II and Herodias, and by the time of the murder she was only 14-16 years old. The story actually goes that she just wanted to help out her mother Herodias, who had an unstable position at court after she had married her husband Philip's step-brother Herod. John the Babtist was one of those who criticized their unholy marriage, so he had to be removed. Herodias used her daughter's beauty (14-year old girl!) to kill and cut John the Baptist's head off.
I really like the controversial nature of the story, so I have carefully put these beautiful painting and photos together to give you an idea of evolution of depicting Salome through centuries.
