If you were one to think that party games were a.) a thing of the past or b.) for kids and kids alone, you may be vastly mistaken and/or living under a rock. There’s no shame in your game, whatever your game may be, as long as it is a game. Wait, what? Let’s back up, here.
We’re all familiar with games of all sorts. Whether it be a board or card game, we've all played one or the other at some point in our lives, closer to childhood for some. What if there were games that could follow you into adulthood to amplify any casual night into a party? Ah-ha! The joke’s on you, that is . . . if you’re one who finds yourself wishing there was something you could bring to or play at a party.
See, we’re living in an attention span-plagued world where one idea surpasses that of the former in three seconds flat, and goes in circles on repeat, seemingly until the end of time. There’s hardly anything that truly captivates an audience of people anymore. What if I told you that it didn't have to be this way — that there was an answer to this time old classic predicament?
Welcome to the world of party games: a place where attention is brought to focus on one point, and laughs are had by all. You read that right; there are actually a handful of party games that cover an array of ages. Some are kid friendly, others have strict age requirements out of appropriateness.
Either way, the fact that the general population still has the desire to not only purchase, but play, a diverse selection of games is worth noting and is to be taken seriously. After all, there’s money to be made, here, and we can only hope party games continue to multiply at lightning speeds.
Now that we’re all on the same page when it comes to party games and their existence for an older crowd, let’s get into the nitty gritty of it all. Knowing they exist is one thing, and knowing what to get when you're perusing Amazon or the shelves of Target is a whole different story. Fret not, dear friends! Where there’s a will, there’s a way (and all that jazz). Enough of the everyday cliches and onto the fun! Don’t know what to get? Perfect! Allow me to steer you in the right direction with these suggestions.
Cards Against Humanity
This is the party classic that’s been around the block a time or two. Inappropriately fabulous in more ways than one, Cards Against Humanity will leave you questioning the sanity and souls of those playing, even yourself! The goal is to win the most hands, which means battling the morality of right, wrong and raunchy.
This is one of those games that’s for all ages, but gets better after dark. It’s not about the appropriateness of the word on the screen, but the humor and hilarity involved in the descriptions of teammates and those of the opposing team. You'll also get a kick and a half out of the answers being shouted out, as well. All in all, this is a great game to rally the troops together and go to game war.
What Do You Meme?
We all love memes when we’re browsing through the internet or our Facebook and Twitter feeds, so why not play the game relative to these laughable images? This game takes memes we’ve come to know and love, and lets players pair captions with them; allowing the ‘it’ player to choose their favorite. The player with the most meme cards wins! As you can imagine, things only get better when alcohol is involved.
Bears vs. Babies
If the name is any indication, this is one hell of a game. Strange, borderline terrifying and yet humorous, Bears vs. Babies is the ultimate test of your imagination and creativity, yet brings out the competitive nature in everyone. The player who eats the most babies wins. What? Yeah . . . you’ll have to play for this to make sense. Plus, this game came out of a Kickstarter campaign, and it doesn’t get more OG than that.
Stupid, Drunk, or High?
This game will leave you in stitches, and also wondering how the human race still exists. Test your knowledge and creativity with this game where players decide what state a person was in when they said, or did, something. It gets more complex than that, but hopefully you get the gist.
Regardless of the game you get, ensure that you yourself are a fan of it before investing! At the end of the day, it’s your money and your time, and both should be spent wisely.
