Storia IS our textbook

Who needs a book? My class just wrote their textbook on Storia. 50,000 words, done! Each of my ESL classes completed the NaNoWriMo goal in November. So what now?

Well, if you look at the stories, they are in rough shape. The girls got the bones down, but there is a lot of work to do.

Not bad for an ESL student, but needs work.

I work at a high school in Turkey with limited resources. Best solution? To create our own. I put the stories up here in Storia for several reasons.

1) As their teacher, I have all of their material in one place. I can also make the stories private, meaning that only those with a password have access. I can and do monitor how they are using the platform

2) It allows my students to see their stories, as well as those of their classmates.

3) It gives them power to edit

4) It let's them illustrate their stories

5) It's safe. How? They have pen names. They login in using our class gmail address, using our classroom password. 6) I am able to monitor the account as they utilize the tool

7) Storia is flexible. It saves drafts, allows us to edit, unlike a more tedious blog. To edit here for young students is easy. They can edit, add things, and delete.

We are using the account as a textbook. The stories need heavy editing, which they are tackling through workshops while the account is projected on a smartboard in class. The girls read the story from Storia at home as homework, take notes, and give feedback on Fridays. The authors of the story then edit accordingly. This process will continue through to the end of the school year
