Two things Marvel wouldn't let 'Jessica Jones' do
By now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is chock full of a wide array of super- (and not-so-super) heroes. Anyone who's been taking notes can see a clear difference in the grit levels between the big, tentpole theatrical releases and what's on Netflix.
So with that in mind, Marvel had only two rules for Jessica Jones creator Melissa Rosenberg, and she talked to Cinema Blend about them.
KRYSTEN RITTER CAN DELIVER F-BOMBS WITH HER FACE ALONE
Netflix doesn't generally care about swearing, violence, and/or sexual content--but Marvel does. Rosenberg said that the biggest rule for Jessica Jones was "No F-bombs! And if anyone was going to say 'fuck,' it would be Jessica Jones."
Rosenberg also went on to say that "Ritter can deliver 'fuck' with her face...She could be saying 'potato.'"
The other thing: While there's some sex, there's no nudity. Rosenberg says that Marvel let her take their PG-13 brand up to about a PG-16, but no R.
