Texas paramedic Christopher Suprun is also a Republican member of the electoral college. He was also a 9/11 first responder. A courageous, patriotic man, by anyone's definition.

In an NYT op-ed, he laid out the reasons why he can't, in good conscience, cast his electoral vote for Trump.

That doesn't mean he's going completely rogue and voting HRC, however. Instead, he suggested that other members of the electoral college who agree that Trump poses a legitimate danger to our country unify behind a Republican alternative who is qualified, such as Governor John Kasich.

A scenario in which electors could prevent a Trump presidency hasn't happened before, but it is possible (and legal).

Like we said, it's a very long shot. But it's interesting to note that the Founding Fathers put a contingency in place to help protect us from ourselves.
