Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner dazzle in Tom Ford’s ‘luxe’ show during NYFW
New York Fashion Week (NYFW) kicked off with supermodels Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner walking the ramp at Tom Ford’s star-studded show, the first major event of the week. Front row celebs included Cindy Crawford, Julianne Moore and a spandex-clad Kim Kardashian West, who also made heads turn with her new white-grey hairstyle.
Tom Ford opened NYFW with sophisticated glamor of the '90s, showcasing a color palette of white and black speckled with lavender, sienna, sapphire blue and shocking pink. The outfits ranged from day-wear pantsuits, structured dinner jackets, athletic shorts, leather trench coats to glam sequined gowns and evening wear.
Hadid walked in a soft pink, ruched figure-hugging dress, with shoulder pads and metallic chain mail sleeves. Jenner wore a similar black sheer gown with one chainmail sleeve and an asymmetrical halter-neck strap. Dramatic cat eyes upped the glamor quotient as Ford said that this collection was inspired by his living in L.A. He said, “I’ve been living in L.A. and people wear sports clothes in the daytime, and in the evening they wear mega evening wear,” and added that he wanted the clothes to look “luxe.”
Ford has earlier incorporated aesthetically pleasing aspects of men’s wear into women’s formal and semi-formal wear. For this collection, he created a female version of his men’s suit, tailored specifically for women, with broad-shouldered jackets that have striking lapels materials.
The show was held at the Park Avenue Armory and featured his latest fragrance, “F—ing Fabulous.’ His make-up brand is the second-fastest-selling beauty range ever, earning revenues of $500 million in 10 years. Tom Ford is acknowledged as revitalizing Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent as their creative director. The celebrated designer also directed last year's Oscar-nominated Nocturnal Animals.
