New British Vogue Editor Unveils Diverse December Issue
The new British Vogue Editor Edward Enninful has been praised for the December issue of British Vogue — titled Great Britain — which was unveiled on Tuesday.
The magazine features a number of high profile celebrities from a range of diverse backgrounds, including the likes of Skepta, Cara Delevingne, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham, Jourdan Dunn, Millie Bobby Brown, Zadie Smith and Zayn Malik.
The front page of the magazine features model and feminist activist Adwoa Aboah, and many celebrities have praised the retro-looking cover, with some saying that this demonstrates a ‘new era’ for the magazine and the formal fashion director’s influence, since he was appointed as editor-in-chief (and Alexandra Shulman’s successor) of British Vogue on the 10th April 2017.
In addition to this, it was recently announced that supermodel Naomi Campbell has become a contributing editor for the magazine. Speaking about the December cover on her Instagram page, she said: “This is an iconic day one we must all remember a day of CHANGE IN MOST POSITIVE WAY !!!”
She described the front cover as ‘divine’ and ‘amazing.’
As for Adwoa Aboah, she praised British Vogue for placing her on the front cover, saying on her Instagram page: “Where do I even begin. Speechless, overwhelmed and grateful. Never in a million years did I think that one day I’d be on the cover of @britishvogue even more so one that marks such a monumental change and a new beginning.”
“Thank you @edward_enninful I’m so very proud of you, you deserve this. Thank you for choosing me to be your first cover girl.”
She ended the caption with the hashtag #newvogue.
With the new issue set to be released early December and with Edward Enninful’s appointment as British Vogue’s editor-in-chief, it seems as though the magazine is taking a positive and progressive step forward for racial equality and diversity.
