Who is Jimmy Lovine?
Jimmy Lovine is an American entrepreneur, record producer, and film producer. He is best known as the co-founder of Interscope Records and chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M. You may also know Jimmy Lovine due to his partnership with Dr. Dre, the two founders of Beats Electronics, a company which produces audio products and operates a the Beats Radio music streaming service.
Just like many of the individuals in this story, the road to success was not an easy one. As a teenager, Lovine was introduced to music production after he met a songwriter who got him a job cleaning a recording studio. After years of being place in a creative environment, Lovine became a studio professional. Since the start of his career, Jimmy Lovine has been involved in the production of more than 250 albums!! In fact, Lovine's unparalled nack for finding the next up and coming talented landed him the nickname "The Man with the Magic Ears".
At the beginning, Lovine was mainly known as an engineer. Working with John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen, among others. The guy made some insanely iconic albums, such as Springsteen's Born to Run and Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell! After a long stint of producing records for recording artists and being a music supervisor for films (such a Sixteen Candles), Lovine decided to open up shop and start his own record label - Interscope Records, which became Interscope Geffen A&M after a merger in 1999.
For all of you hip hop heads out there, Lovine signed Tupac Shakur to a recording contract as one of the first Hip Hop acts on the Interscope label in 1992. Lovine was also responsible for providing distribution, initial funding and financial oversight for the highly successful Death Row Records hip hop label in the mid 90's. Death Row operated as a subsidiary of his company Interscope, and was largely responsible for Interscope's initial platinum selling chart successes throughout the decade, which later launched the company into greater success in the 2000s with platinum artists like Eminem and Lady Gaga.
To say that Lovine is multi-faceted would be an understatement. Aside from all his achievements musically, Lovine co-produced the Academy Award-winning Eminem movie, 8 Mile, which opened at #1 at the box office and went on to gross more than $240 million worldwide!!!
Just when the world didn't think he could become any more successful than he already had, Lovine teamed up with Dr. Dre to co-found Beats By Dr. Dre. Due in part to the design of its headphones and an expansion into smartphones and automotive audio systems, the company has captured 40 percent market share of the headphones industry. - Billboard.com
Beats by Dr. Dre was later acquired by Apple for $3 Billion!
