Young bodybuilder dies in terrifying backflip mishap
The life of an aspiring young African bodybuilder was cut short recently when he attempted to perform a backflip but stopped short, landing on his head and breaking his neck in the process.
It all happened during a community hall competition in Durban, South Africa where the 23-year-old local athlete Sifiso Lungelo Thabete walked into a crowd of his eager fans, ready to please.
To appease the excited group, Thabete attempted his famous backflip, to devastating results.
In a video taken by a fan, we see the bodybuilder hit his neck right before his body goes limp as it hits the mat. EMT’s attempted to save him but the damage was done, and Thabete died soon after the incident.
What is most disturbing about the situation is that he had successfully completed the exercise many times in the past, but this attempt was one too many.
Experts are trying to figure out what went wrong during the routine with many believing that since he was wearing socks on a mat, he didn’t get the momentum necessary to complete the full maneuver.
It is a sad story for a young man with a career on the rise.
Sifiso was a young talent who had burst onto the scene with his toned physique and dedication to the craft. In the recent past, he became the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Junior World Championship in the up-to 75 kg category, and he was looking forward to doing so much more.
The fact that he had such a promising career ahead of him only makes this story that much more upsetting.
He was described by many as a young man with a bright future, but unfortunately, that future was cut short.
