Almond Milk Eggnog Has Arrived At Trader Joe’s

Ever since scientists discovered you can milk almonds (and they won’t give you attitude or kick over your pail either), the nut-based beverage has been flying out of the dairy freezer.

Following almond milk came almond milk smoothies, almond milk lattes, and even — for vegan Big Lebowski lovers — almond milk white russians.

With the approaching holiday season comes the most festive milk-free masterpiece yet: Almond Nog.

The healthier-ish holiday drink was discovered at Trader Joe’s by unaffiliated Instagrammer @TraderJoesList.

“A rich and creamy non-dairy almond beverage,” Trader Joe’s Almond Nog is lighter on the fat, calories, and sugar. Check it out:

Nutrition Facts (per ½ cup serving)

  • Calories: 50
  • Total fat: 1.5 grams
  • Saturated fat: 0 grams
  • Total sugars: 8 grams

Compare that to traditional eggnog, which has around 112 calories, 3.5 grams of saturated fat, and 10 grams of sugar per half-cup serving.

In addition to Almond Nog, Trader Joe’s is rolling out a bunch of vegan-friendly spins on holiday favorites this year. Popular plant-based picks include Trader Joe’s Turkey-Less Stuffed Roast with Gravy featuring breaded seitan, and Rice Cauliflower Stuffing. For dessert, there’s Sweet Potato Pie mix with vegan marshmallows.
