Give sexism the boot, USA media!
It's the Olympic Games in 2016, where the best athletes in the world compete for top honors. And who's shoving women down? Sports commentators and the media. Give it a rest!
The ChicagoTribune can't even give CoreyCogdell proper congratulations in a tweet -- they reference her medal win by her husband's fame, not her own. Does it not matter she's won medals at more than one Olympics? Or that she's the athlete winning here?
After a major swimming feat in the Olympic pool, a sexist commentator flubbed big time by giving credit for her accomplishments to her husband as the cameras panned to him in the crowds.
And while the TeamUSA in gymnastics made an outstanding showing on day one of the floor exercises by coming in a whopping 10 points ahead of the competition, one male announcer crassly chose to say that the group of excited young women appeared to be like girls "at a mall". Excuse us all to hell!
There's been no official response from NBC on that gaffe, but seriously folks, why are these men still on the air? Time after time, they give out rude and demeaning comments as if their minds haven't the ability to control their mouths. Isn't there some quality control in hiring these days??
