Apple CEO Proud Of Decision To Come Out
Apple CEO Tim Cook became the first CEO of a major company four years ago to come out as gay. He says he's happy about his decision and about his being gay.

Cook came out on October 30, 2014. His sexual orientation had been widely speculated upon but he hadn’t confirmed it openly.
He said he came out to morally support children who had written to him, describing the discrimination and bullying they had faced because of their sexuality.

55I needed to do something for them
Cook said he was shocked to learn he was the first CEO of a Fortune 500 company to come out. He said he is glad other CEOs have come out since, although wasn't his goal was not to set an precedent.
Coming out has been helpful to Cook as a leader, he said.

Discriminatory comments have also given him a thick skin, Cook said.

He asked a peremptory question near the end of the interview: “If one day somebody could declare everyone treat everyone with dignity and respect, the world would be totally different. Wouldn’t that be great?”
