The Story Behind the First Ever E-mail Sent

Through this article we will take back you to a few decades back when the first email was ever sent in the history of communication. When it comes to science and technology, the first ground breakers are always fascinating, and so is the story of how the first email was ever sent.

There is no doubt about the fact that the first email ever sent in the history of mankind marked the beginning of a new era in world of communication. But do you know when was the first email sent? And who was the first person to send the first ever email? Well, let’s find out in this article!

So, the first ever network was sent by the computer engineer Ray Tomlinson in the year 1971, as Ray was simply sending a test message to him-self. Apart from being the first person to send the first ever email, Tomlinson is also the person behind introducing the @ locator sign used for email addresses.

Ray was in Cambridge, Massachusetts, when the first email was sent from one computer to another computer located just under the same roof. The medium through which the email could be sent was ARPANET, which was a network of computers most popularly known as the precursor of the internet that we all use today. Strangely, the first ever email sent was nothing meaningful but just a test that read “something like QWRTYUIOP”.
