I am Molly and this is my story of Cyberstalking. Cyberstalking is the use of technology to make someone else afraid or concerned about their safety. Last march, one fine evening my best friend found my name pop up on in a text notification on her phone. She told me about the text and I realized that my cyberstalker had struck again and this time with a spot on impersonation of me.
John has stalked and harassed me, online and off for almost 15 years. He has used a variety of methods to so- Email, phone , text, Facebook and other social media updating his tactics with every advance in technology.
It looked like John had stolen my identity and was now posing as me to my friends online. I immediately called Google for help and it turned that my accounts were secure. He was spoofing my email account using a software program that let him impersonate me online. He used to send messages at a maniacal rate- every few hours unreciprocated with no end in sight. I caved and sent him a message to stop messaging me but he didn’t.
Two years back, I finally decided to take a legal action. Impersonating me and spoofing my emails was too much. I had to find a way to end this harassment before it escalated yet again.
I just need my voice to be heard rather than the laws questioning whether I feel scared enough.
