Libertarian shakes up the 'Trumpstablishment'

A Congressman from Michigan is buoying the hopes of GOP voters who find themselves embarrassed by the first 100 days of the Trump Administration. He's no stranger to controversy in the GOP, either.

Justin Amash, the Republican representative from the 3rd Congressional district and a self-professed Libertarian, first made major waves when he famously clashed with Paul Ryan over budget reform back in 2012-13.

In the Mitten State and in the traditionally Conservative city of Grand Rapids that Justin Amash calls home, people are pretty clear about what they want and Amash was eager to show that he matched the values of his constituents.

He was one of the first politicians to effectively use social media to his advantage, by keeping everyone aware of his stance on issues and his votes. Indeed, his reputation for voting is daunting. He is one of only a handful of Congressman to vote on every issue, only just barely missing a vote while being interviewed by reporters a few weeks ago. Devastated, he broke into tears and took to Twitter to apologize to his district.

It's no surprise to his constituents that he would call the Trump Administration to task over issues not in the interest of America, or the GOP.

He clashed again with Paul Ryan over the repeal of Obamacare last month. Just last week, at a town hall in Cedar Springs, Michigan, Amash said that if Ryan can't move forward with a better nonpartisan agenda, he should be removed as Speaker.

This has led to backlash not just from the GOP but also the White House itself. Dan Scavino, President Trump's social media director, has reportedly called for Amash to be defeated in the 2018 mid-terms.

This is how Amash replied to Scavino:

In Grand Rapids Amash being defeated in 2018 seems unlikely. He has widespread support from a district that appreciates his honesty. He also supports Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos who also hails from Grand Rapids. Vice President Mike Pence is also on good terms with Amash, so he is not alone.

After being attacked by the Trump White House, Justin Amash dusted himself off this week and fought back via social media and his town hall meetings. As one of the founders of The Freedom Caucus, a political organization showing itself to be a force to be reckoned with since 2015, Amash has come directly under fire from POTUS.

For now, this principled and consistent Congressman is providing Conservatives with a light of hope.

Whether this promising politician rises or falls, we predict his journey will give the GOP the much-needed shake up a lot of voters want.

I guess we shall wait and see. What do you think?
