A new generation of heroes had been born and, as if to prove it, their images were beamed 50 meters high on the Arc De Triomphe.

Paris metro operator RATP has temporarily renamed six stations in recognition of the team's achievements, according to

However, the euphoria led to violence in a few cities. Dozens of youths broke into a store on the Champs-Elysées and stole wine and champagne.

Two deadly accidents were linked to the win. One man in his fifties jumped into a canal in Annecy after the final whistle but fell on his neck and died of his injuries. Another man drove his car into a tree while celebrating.

Celebrations will continue. On Monday, Macron will welcome the team back to Paris and the players will make a bus parade up the Champs-Elysees avenue, where they are expected to be honored by hundreds of thousands of people.
